\ 道可以说出来的,就不是2113那一成不变的永恒之道,说可5261以4102说出来的东西,就不是恒常的,可1653以用名去称谓,就不是恒常的名称。照这样解释,道和名都是指称谓、言说或指称。这是道、名的第一层意思.“道”是可以进行论述和说明的,然而本文所要专门讨论的“道”是“非常道”。“名”是可以进行命名和称呼的无名”可以认为是天地的开始,“有名”可以认为是万物的来源。所以,可以用“常无欲”的方式去观察天地万物的“妙”也就是“小”,可以用“常有欲”的方式去观察天地万物的“徼”也就是“大”。“常无欲”和“常有欲”或者说“小”和“大”其来源相同,但是名称不同。这个来源可以叫做“玄”。然而,“玄”之中还有“玄”,这就是“众妙之门”:所谓“众妙”就是造成天地万物的种种最微小的因素;所谓“门”,是比喻这些种种最微小的因素所必然经过的路径。常无(有)欲意思是之所以经常在没有欲求时来探究它的奥妙,有的时候探究它的倪端。
